This abundant Potted Companion is all about easy, pick and come again everyday harvesting. A lush mix of leafy greens, edible viola’s and springtime freesia’s, make this pot the perfect combination of pretty and productive gardening.

What’s included in the Potted Companion:

Kale (Brassica oleracea) for ongoing harvest, the cold weather improves its eating quality and flavour.  

Italian Parsley (Petroselinum crispum var. neapolitarium) adds fresh herbaceous brightness to dishes with abundant harvests.

Viola (Viola cornuta) produces edible flowers that add colour and attract pollinators.  

Freesia bulbs (Freesia x hybrida) to add spring sunshine to the pot.

Planted in a large black San Remo pot (33cm).

Why it works:

These plants grow beautifully together, giving you a full, layered pot that’s both productive and visually pleasing with soft greens and purples balanced with delicate blooms. They all enjoy similar cool season growing conditions and make efficient use of space with different root depths and growth habits. The violas and freesia’s add colour and attract pollinators like bees, which support a healthier mini ecosystem.

Grow tips & Position:

Best grown in a sunny to partly shaded position that is sheltered from frost.

Water regularly to keep leaves tender and thriving.

Harvest regularly from the outside in using the oldest leaves first. This encourages fresh new growth.

Remove spent viola blooms to extend flowering season.

Fertilise regularly. 

Benefits & Uses:

Kale is a nutritional powerhouse and a rich source of Vitamin A, C, B6, Calcium and Iron. The nutritious leaves can be eaten fresh in salads or cooked as a vegetable.

Parsley is an excellent source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin K, and is an essential ingredient in bouquet garni. Ideal in soups, casseroles, fish, chicken and egg dishes.

Viola flowers can be used as a garnish for cakes, salads and for fancy ice cubes.

Freesia flowers for joy and happiness.
