This vibrant Potted Companion combines trailing nasturtium with fresh red and green lettuces— bringing a balance of mild and peppery flavours, colour, and texture together in one compact, easy-to-grow pot. Perfect for snipping straight into salads.

What's included in the Potted Companion: 

Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) is a spreading dwarf nasturtium that is very easy to grow and can be used in salads

Red lettuce & Green lettuce (Lactuca sativa) Crisp, delicate and tender fresh leaves.

Planted in a small black self-watering pot (20 x 18cm)

Why it works:

Nasturtium and lettuce grow beautifully together in a pot because they enjoy similar growing conditions while naturally supporting each other. Nasturtiums help attract beneficial insects and can draw pests away from lettuce, while their trailing growth shades the soil and helps retain moisture. Lettuce grows quickly and compactly alongside nasturtiums without heavily competing for space, creating a productive, low-maintenance and visually beautiful container combination.

Grow tips & Position: 

Best grown in a sunny to part shaded position.

As a self-watering pot, keep the reservoir topped up regularly and check the water level often, especially during hot or dry weather. 

Harvest lettuce leaves regularly from the outside in using the oldest leaves first. This encourages fresh new growth.

Benefits & Uses:

Nasturtium flowers and leaves are edible, adding a vibrant peppery flavour similar to watercress. Rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, they're delicious in salads, sandwiches, pesto and as a colourful garnish, while the flowers also make stunning natural cake decorations. 

Lettuce is hydrating, low in calories and a good source of Vitamins A and K, making it a fresh, nutritious addition to everyday meals. The colourful mix of red and green leaves adds both visual appeal and a variety of nutrients. Harvest young leaves from the outside in for salads, sandwiches, wraps and burgers.
