Golden Garnish

A kitchen favourite, with flowers that work hard too 🌼

Fresh Italian parsley is teamed with edible pansies and sweet alyssum to create a companion pot that's both practical and beautiful. Together, these plants help attract pollinators and beneficial insects while providing fresh garnishes and colourful edible flowers to elevate everyday dishes.

What’s included in the Potted Companion:

Italian Parsley (Petroselinum crispum var. neapolitarium) adds fresh herbaceous brightness to dishes with abundant harvests.

Viola (Viola cornuta) produces masses of bold, yellow-coloured edible blooms.

Sweet Alyssum (Lobularia maritima) provides a hardy ground cover which produces a mass of tiny flowers in a mix of pastel colours.

Planted in a medium, sage, self-watering pot (25x23cm).

Why it works:

Parsley is one of the hardest-working herbs in the garden, while viola and alyssum attract beneficial pollinators and predatory insects that help keep your garden healthy. Alyssum also forms a living mulch, helping to shade the soil and reduce moisture loss, making this trio both beautiful and practical. Together, these plants create a productive, beautiful companion pot that supports biodiversity while providing fresh harvests throughout the season.

Grow tips & Position:

Thrives in full sun to part shade (around 4–6 hours of sun each day).

As a self-watering pot, keep the reservoir topped up regularly and check the water level often, especially during hot or dry weather.

Harvest parsley regularly to encourage fresh, leafy growth.

Remove spent viola flowers to keep blooms growing throughout the season.

Benefits & Uses:

Italian parsley is prized for its fresh, robust flavour and is one of the most versatile herbs to grow at home. Harvest leaves regularly to encourage continuous growth and use them in salads, pasta, soups, sauces, pesto, chimichurri, tabbouleh and as a finishing herb for roasted vegetables, fish and grilled meats. It's also a good source of vitamins A, C, and K.

Yellow violas bring a cheerful splash of colour while attracting bees and other beneficial pollinators to your garden. Their edible flowers make a beautiful garnish for salads, cakes, desserts and drinks, adding both colour and a delicate, mild flavour.

Sweet Alyssum produces masses of fragrant white flowers that attract hoverflies, lacewings and other beneficial insects that naturally help control garden pests. It also forms a living mulch, helping to shade the soil, retain moisture, and create a lush, full-looking container.
