Mini Green Harvest
Everyday essentials, growing side by side 🌿
Harvest fresh spinach and fragrant thyme whenever you need them, with sweet alyssum adding beauty while attracting pollinators and beneficial insects. Thoughtfully planted to grow in harmony, this companion pot makes it easy to enjoy fresh, homegrown flavour in even the smallest spaces.
What's included in the Potted Companion:
Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) tender leafy greens for fresh salads and cooked dishes.
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is a hardy low growing perennial herb with rich, aromatic foliage and small white, bee attracting flowers.
Sweet Alyssum (Lobularia maritima) a soft ground cover which produces a mass of tiny flowers in a mix of pastel colours.
Planted in a small, white, self-watering pot (20x18cm).
Why it works:
This combination pairs leafy greens with a hardy Mediterranean herb and a flowering companion that attracts beneficial insects. Spinach enjoys the cooler conditions created by nearby foliage; thyme offers year-round flavour, and sweet alyssum brings pollinators and natural pest predators into your garden. Together, these plants create a productive, beautiful companion pot that supports biodiversity while providing fresh harvests throughout the season.
Grow tips & Position:
Position in full sun to part shade, with around 4–6 hours of sunlight each day.
As a self-watering pot, keep the reservoir topped up regularly and check the water level often, especially during hot or dry weather.
Harvest spinach leaves regularly to encourage fresh growth, trim thyme often to keep it compact and productive, and remove spent alyssum flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
Benefits & Uses:
Spinach is a fast-growing leafy green that's packed with vitamins A, C, and K, along with iron and antioxidants. Harvest the outer leaves as needed for a continuous supply, and enjoy them fresh in salads, sandwiches and smoothies, or cooked in pasta dishes, soups, curries, quiches and stir-fries.
Thyme is a hardy, aromatic herb that thrives with minimal care and provides fresh flavour throughout the year. Its fragrant foliage can help deter some garden pests, while its flowers attract bees when allowed to bloom. Use fresh or dried thyme to season roasted vegetables, chicken, lamb, casseroles, soups, stuffing and homemade marinades.
Sweet alyssum produces clusters of delicate, honey-scented flowers that attract bees, hover flies, and other beneficial insects. It also acts as a living mulch, helping to shade the soil, retain moisture, and soften the edges of the pot, creating a fuller, healthier container garden.
